Foodie Thoughts....

So what is my 'foodie thought' in October, I hear you ask?

Gosh, where to start. With the increasing prices of food and some apparent shortages due to harvesting and delivery issues, we all need to shop a little smarter. And that can be a good thing.

I think it is fair to say that the majority of people have, at some point, wasted food. I know I have in the past but I now shop much smarter to avoid this. Consequently, I buy less than I used to.

I try to buy local, organically grown veggies. Sometimes I will buy a slightly larger amount of those that are close to being at their sell by date, partly because they are likely to be cheaper (you can't take the thrifty buyer out of me!), but also so I can make a batch of homemade soup and veggie stir fry, to freeze in portions.

Talking of the freezer, when was the last time you defrosted yours? Did you find any foods in there that you had forgotten about? This is another are where it can be easy to lose track of what you have. I know someone who 'discovered' a joint of beef in their freezer that had been there for almost 10 years!! 😲😲 Whilst this is a little extreme, it can be easy to have something that ends up in the bottom/at the back of the freezer, never to see the light of day. It comes down to rotation, so the oldest is brought to the front for use first. It also helps if you know what is in your freezer.

Same thing applies to your kitchen cupboards Why not see if there are any surprises at the back of the cupboard and see how creative you can be with your next meal. You never know, it could be an absolute winner 😋
